Basic System Requirements
Reliable Internet access is mandatory for online courses. A cable or DSL connection is strongly recommended. To check if your system meets the basic requirements, please visit the UO Libraries Blackboard Browser Requirements Check page.
Supported Systems
An Apple system running OSX or later, or a PC system running Windows XP or later is recommended. Currently, Linux and mobile devices are not widely supported.
Browser Support
The current version of Mozilla Firefox is recommended, however the current versions of Apple Safari or Microsoft Internet Explorer may be supported. Google Chrome is not supported and should not be used to access the Blackboard course management system.
Software Requirements
It is important to have the necessary software and know how to use it to fully participate in online courses.
Adobe Acrobat Reader: You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view PDF files. The software is available as a free download.
Office Suite: Microsoft Office or Apple iWork are the recommended applications. Free alternatives are available but may not be fully supported.
Students using assistive technology (such as screen readers or voice recognition programs) should have this software installed and be familiar with its functionality before starting an online course.
Audiovisual Requirements
Video cameras and microphones are strongly encouraged for some courses, while scanners, digital cameras, and other image capture devices are encouraged for others. Consult your course Blackboard site or contact the instructor if you have questions about specific course AV requirements.
