Using Canvas

Two students sitting and talking.

What is Canvas?

Canvas is the course management system used by the University of Oregon. You will access your online courses through Canvas at https://canvas.uoregon.edu. Canvas enables you to:

  • Access course materials for reading, printing, or downloading
  • Participate in discussion boards and live chats
  • Receive and submit assignments
  • Take quizzes and exams
  • Monitor your grades

Instructors will use Canvas to correspond with you about your online courses. All e-mails sent by your instructor via Canvas are sent to your UO e-mail account (example@uoregon.edu). You should check this account frequently.

Logging in to Canvas

When logging in to Canvas, your username is the same as your UO Duck ID part of your UO e-mail address before the @ sign.

Example:

If your Duck ID is "johndoe," your UO e-mail address is "johndoe@uoregon.edu." Enter "johndoe" as your Canvas username.

Your password is the same as your Duck ID password. If you forget your Duck ID password, you can reset it here.
