Course OverviewUnited States Politics
Syllabus and E-mail
Course ContentThis course is designed to provide a comprehensive, introductory overview of United States politics. You will learn about the constitutional foundations of U.S. government and explore key political institutions in U.S. politics-Congress, the Presidency, bureaucracies, and the media. Other topics to be covered include an examination of political participation in the U.S. via voting behavior, elections, interest groups and social movements, and an assessment of the overall status of democracy in America. The independent study version of PS 201 is designed for the student who wishes to proceed through the subject material at his or her own pace. Independent study courses permit you to complete most requirements at your discretion. There are no lectures or discussion sections. There are some inflexible deadlines, however. Read this syllabus carefully and be advised that independent study is not the best option for every student. To succeed in this course, you must be self-motivated and very well-organized. In addition, your reading and writing skills should be strong. Note that PS 201 cannot be repeated for credit - the traditional lecture course PS 201 and the independent study/Distance Education course PS 201 are the same course. |
